Sunday is here, Saturday is gone

Another week of College Football is in the books.

I was at work for most of the day, so I didn't really get to watch a lot. But I did keep up with a lot through CBS Sports, and through that I was able to keep up with a lot of games at once. Several Top 25 teams faltered yesterday, I would like to point out that a lot of the teams that lost lost to another Top 25 team. I would also like to point out that I was 3 out of 3 on my predictions for this weekend, and I called two of the upsets.

Quick rundown of the weekend... #7 Florida got smoked by #1 Alabama, 31-6. #2 Ohio State struggled early with Illinois, but pulled out the victory 24-13. #3 Boise State had another blowout victory over New Mexico State, 59-0. #4 Oregon picked up a lot of slack in the second half against #9 Stanford, 52-31. #5 TCU blew out Colorado State, 27-0. #8 Oklahoma won the Red River Rivalry game against #21 Texas, 28-20. #10 Auburn had a cake walk against Louisiana Monroe, 52-3. #11 Wisconsin got beat by #24 Michigan State, 34-24. #12 LSU lucked out against Tennessee, 16-14. #16 Miami beat Clemson, 30-21. #17 Iowa manhandled #22 Penn State, 24-3. #18 USC lost at the last second to Washington, 32-31. #19 Michigan got a scare from Indiana, but pulled out the victory, 42-35. That is the results through the Top 20 from this weekend.

Alabama still #1

The game against Florida was ugly from the opening kickoff. Lots of mistakes in the red zone cost Florida at least a semi close match with Alabama. During my time at Red Robins last night, Florida lost the ball twice inside the 5 yard line, that is stupid! They won't ever win like that. At least not against top tier teams in the country. In my book Alabama is the easy pick for #1 in the nation.

Is there any team out there that can challenge them during the rest of their schedule? Since there horrible first half of the Arkansas game, they have been almost unscathed. They still have a tough schedule ahead though in order to run the tables in the SEC. This week they have #19 South Carolina on the road. That might pan out to be a good match up. But right now this Alabama team looked pretty hard to stop.

Heisman Top 5

#1: Denard "Shoelace" Robinson, Michigan, QB
If you have seen this guy play, you have been given a treat. He is something else to watch, and in my book is the clear Heisman front runner. He is the only player in college football history to throw for 200 yards and run for 200 yards in the same game, twice. And both times were this season! If Michigan can continue to win I think Denard Robinson is a no brainer for the Heisman trophy this year.

#2: Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State, QB
Terrelle Pryor is amazing to watch. The way he can control a game is phenomenal. And the fact that he is helping Ohio State remain at #2 in the nation is another great fact. Statistically speaking, he lacks a little to what I see in Denard Robinson. But Pryor is a close second to Robinson.

#3: Kellen Moore, Boise State, QB
You have a respect a guy who basically runs a team like Boise State. 11 Touchdowns to 1 Interception, that looks great. The only thing I don't like from Moore is the fact that he doesn't really ever see any hard competition from the opposing defenses. It is hard for me to respect someone or even a team that play 10 out of it's 12 games against teams that can barely lace their shoes.

#4: Mark Ingram, Alabama, RB
He had an off game against Florida, he only rushed the ball 12 times for 47 yards. But he also added two touchdowns to his year total, giving him 6 for the year. With 355 yards on the year, in just 3 games, it is very possible that he can repeat as Heisman if he stays healthy and keeps averaging the yards per game that he is.

#5 Ryan Mallett, Arkansas, QB
Laugh all you want, maybe this is a little biased because I am an Arkansas fan, but I think Ryan deserves at least a little credit for the season he has had thus far. Take away one or two passes against Alabama, and it is very possible that Mallett could be #1 in most people's Heisman list. He had an BYE week this week, but look for Mallett to come out firing on all levels this weekend against Texas A&M.

New Rankings

For a list of all the new rankings go to CBS Sports, or just click on the link. Some has changed, some hasn't. The biggest change is Oregon making it into the top 3 at #3, and Boise State dropping to #4, due to their lackluster schedule strength.

Well, that's it for my Saturday recap. I hope everyone enjoyed the football they watched! Enjoy your week and get ready for another excited weekend of College Football next week. I'm OUT!

  1. Good job, my Buddy Boy. I don't know how you keep up with all this data, but you seem to really know what you are doing.
